English Folk Music - The Irrepressible Tradition
For nearly a century the English Folk Dance and Song Society (EFDSS) has been preserving and promoting our folk heritage. The Society aims to promote the best of the folk arts through a range of mediums including dance, music, song, film, exhibitions, publications and our library collections; engage new generations with the folk arts through workshops, classes and study, and to ensure that the folk arts are a fundamental part of the cultural life of the UK.
At the beginning of 2009 the EFDSS launched a new, year long season to showcase the best new stars on the folk music scene - The Irrepressible Tradition - at its London venue, Cecil Sharp House.
The EFDSS generoulsy supported the inclusion of the new wave and emerging English traditional artists at the 2009 Festival which included Bellowhead, Edward II, Jim Moray, Jon Boden & The Remnant Kings, The Demon Barbers, Bella Hardy and Megan & Joe Henwood.
