THE CO-OPERATIVE REWARD MY RIDE CAMPAIGN GETS UNDERWAY
The largest single cause of carbon emissions at any festival is caused by audience travel. So this year, do your bit and The Co-operative will Reward Your Ride!
The Co-operative Cambridge Folk Festival has continued on its mission to encourage punters to think about the environment by launching the ‘Reward my Ride’ campaign.
The campaign will encourage everyone to get to the festival in the greenest way possible, whether by public transport, lift sharing or roller skates!
The Co-operative has long been proud of their ethical credentials and to mark its sponsorship of the equally environmentally-conscious Cambridge Folk Festival, it is rewarding music lovers if they leave the car at home and travel to the festival with minimal carbon emissions.
Since one of the highest pollutants at any festival is the barrage of vehicles that bring punters to the site, festival attendees are being encouraged to bike, bus, train, walk, sail, punt or space hop to the event, and send the photos to www.co-operative.co.uk/cambridge-folk-festival.
Once registered, the best will win a bike so they can carry on keeping their pollution down. The site also contains tips on getting to the site and an exclusive chat with performer Eliza Carthy.
Co-operative Ambassador, twice Mercury nominated performer Eliza Carthy, is delighted at the initiative:
“I am so looking forward to seeing the innovative ways people get here – I’m hoping for hang gliders! This initiative encourages people to think a bit more dynamically about their travel arrangements and consider their carbon footprint. It’ll make their journey much more fun too.”
The festival has won a myriad of awards over the years praising its approach to the environment, including the prestigious ‘A Greener Festival Award’ and two ‘Arts & Business East’ awards. The Co-operative has been voted the UK’s most ethical brand, and 98 per cent of all its outlets are powered by renewable energy. With 260 Fairtrade grocery products, it has the widest range of Fairtrade grocery products.
