Meet The Team
Meet the people who work on the festival all year round who, along with the many amazing people who work over the festival weekend, help to bring Cambridge Folk Festival to life.
Becky Burrell – Strategic & Marketing Lead, Cambridge Folk Festival
Hi, I’m Becky, the new Strategic & Marketing Lead for the Cambridge Folk Festival. I’ve got a background in City Centre Management and have spent years bringing people and organisations together, building partnerships, and running campaigns that support both cultural and community projects.
I’ve worked across event management, marketing, and strategic planning, always with a focus on creating fun, engaging experiences and growing audiences. Having lived in Cambridge for over 40 years, I know the city well and am passionate about its cultural scene.
I’m really excited to be part of the Cambridge Folk Festival and can’t wait to work with the team to make this year’s events unforgettable.
Outside of work, I love travelling, hanging out with friends and family, and catching live music or theatre whenever I can
John Fell – Programmer, Cambridge Folk Festival
For over 15 years, I have been the programmer for the Moseley Folk & Arts Festival, bringing incredible artists to Birmingham including Father John Misty, Levellers, Laura Marling, The Saw Doctors, The Waterboys, Kurt Vile, Wilco, Belle & Sebastian, Flogging Molly, Graham Nash, Richard Hawley, Don McLean, Amy Macdonald, José González, Billy Bragg, Kate Rusby, The Dead South, Kingfishr, The Mary Wallopers, and Super Furry Animals—along with hundreds more.
John has also been a regular attendee and fan of Cambridge Folk over the years as a punter as well as the manager of rising folk star Katherine Priddy.
I am also the programmer for the Mostly Jazz Funk & Soul Festival, which takes place at the same venue as Moseley Folk & Arts Festival.
Hazel Beale – Events Operations Officer, Cambridge Folk Festival
I’m Hazel – I first joined the Festival back in 2014 in the Folk Festival office, working as part of the accreditation team. I quickly fell in love with the Festival – they couldn’t keep me away (though thankfully they kept inviting me back!).
Towards the end of 2024 I stepped into the role of Events Operations Officer, and one of my first projects was delivering the Folk in the City 2025 programme. I’m really grateful to everyone who supported those events.
My role now focuses on the planning and logistics that help everything run smoothly behind the scenes. I also provide support to other indoor and outdoor events delivered by City Events and the Cambridge Corn Exchange.
I know I have some big boots to fill, and while the Festival may look a little different this year, I’m confident our team will move mountains to make sure everyone has the best possible experience.
I’m really looking forward to helping shape the next chapter of the Festival and supporting the team and community that make Cambridge Folk Festival so special as we continue to build and grow the event again. I’m always listening and keen to make positive changes that benefit our Festival community and beyond.
Malka Kovalenko – Events Assistant, Cambridge Folk Festival
As an Events Assistant for the Folk Festival, I support the planning and delivery of the event, helping with coordination, logistics, and on-site operations to ensure a smooth and enjoyable experience for everyone.
Outside of work, I’m passionate about live music and perform in my own band. You may also have spotted me filming events around the city — just one of the many hats I wear within the arts world.
Andrew Keightley – Production Manager, Cambridge Folk Festival & City Events
As Events Operations Manager I oversee all the infrastructure required for putting on the festival, ensuring all the ‘nuts and bolts’ for the events are booked and set up safely on site. Having worked on the Cambridge Folk Festival since 2009 where I started as the lighting designer, there is not a blade of grass I am unfamiliar with at Cherry Hinton Hall.
Freya Pryce – Marketing Assistant, Cambridge Folk Festival & Cultural Services
I started working for the festival and the wider Cultural Services team in 2023, I work on posts for social media, the webiste and all other things digital!
My favourite part of the job is making the round up reels at the end of each day of the festival, you’ll catch me running around Cherry Hinton Hall trying to capture a clip of everything to go in them.
Working for the festival I’ve discovered many artists that I might not have otherwise come across, my favourites being Flyte, William Prince and Billie Marten.
Outside of work, I go to as many concerts as I can to see my favourite artists live, from huge artists in arenas to up and coming artists in smaller, more intimate venues.
